Slarty Barfast

In a game you sometimes have a few NPCs or zero level humans to absorb some of the damage you deal out to make a scene in a game more cinematic. You don't expect them to survive and attempt to kill them off as fast as possible.

Sometimes.... just sometimes one of them survives.

In this case the survivor had this mini.

Thus Slarty Barfast was born. My friend Todd named him after a character from Hitch Hikers Guild to the Galaxy and that was that. Through two game sessions Slarty Barfast has become a legend and even inspired me to draw a picture of him (based off of Homer Simpson). He is currently the wielder of the Fork of Werecow Slaying and also wields a "pig" of questionable nature (flash bang pig???).

Fork of Werecow Slaying

The Fork of Werecow Slaying came from a campaign I was playing which was more social based and less action. The characters where bored and of course sitting in a tavern. To amuse himself one of the players popped off about being a famous hunter of werecows. The character he was playing was in fact a "were" creature (a weretiger I think) and got the local peasants in a tizzy and told them they needed the fork of werecow slaying to protect their population of chickens. At the end of it the village had a "fork of werecow slaying" (a normal fork) and the group had 500 gold in their pocket.

In this current game I am running I decided to drop the Fork of Werecow slaying in as a real magic item. I am not sure if I will ever introduce a Werecow (There is a creature called a Devil Swine - I think - nothing like shape changing bacon) but it might be amusing. The NPC Slaty Barfast....

Fork of Werecow Slaying - Damage: 1d2 +1/+6 vs. Werecows (becomes +2/+12 when combined with the Steak Knife of Werecow Eatting)

The World so far...

I seem to love to start with a map of a world. I started with a simple conflict between two different nations. From the simple valley region that I had drawn out from an idea in my head I started to doodle a country map and then finally a world map. I then started to conceptualize what I wanted in my world.

Through some coxing I came up with the name of Aurora for my world. It has a decent "fantasy" like sound to it but still is ambiguous enough to be mailable (I guess I could always change it later on). The current country that the game is taking place in is Provence (think France with humans and elves living together). I nation of Stravinia is currently in a boarder war with Provence which has been simmering for 200 years since Provence claimed the city of Providence (formerly named Strenburg) from Stravinia (with divine help... which I will write about later).

The game is currently taking place in is Frost valley (yes with the FROST RIVER... which its source is the FROST GLACIER) which formed the boarder between the two countries. I also added in a few twists and turns to the local geography and history which AGAIN I will write about later.

Just to change things up.. here is a MAP of the Frost Valley. Enjoy.

Practical Application and Usage

I would like to use this blog for mostly gaming related fodder and ideas. I got inspired by a friend I game with and thought it would be an enjoyable summer hobby for me.
